Dreadnought Clay Bullnose Tile: Smooth Red/Blue Blend

*** PLEASE SEE BUYER NOTES ***

Coloured with a Red Blue Blend obtained through a skilfully controlled burning process, this Dreadnought Premium Clay Bullnose Roof Tile has an Etruria Marl clay structure. It features traditional and naturally occurring hues of authentic multi-coloured tones that aren't replicable with artificial pigments or stains.

With a rich and varied blend of purples and blues merged with red and bright terracotta, this roof tile has a unique appearance and is ideal for enhancing your vertical cladding or a large expanse of roof. Ornamental tiles were common in Victorian architecture and experience indicates that they look best when tiled at odd number courses such as 3 or 5.

Why Choose Dreadnought clay Roof Tiles?

Dating back to 1805, Dreadnought has been under the same family management since 1902 and as a result has a very consistent long-term philosophy.

Dreadnought Tiles named after Nelsons iconic battleship "HMS Dreadnought" after the Battle of Trafalgar, was founder by R.S Davenhill, Mesrs Hinton and Perry.

This expertise is contained in a tile works that was established in 1805 and has been developed by four generations of the same family management throughout the last century. Dreadnought are the only specialist manufacturer of plain tiles in “natural” clay colours both Smoothfaced and Sandfaced.

British made for over 200 years

Dreadnought Tiles are recognised for their unrivalled true clay colours. Colour is generated exclusively through the delicate control of the kiln atmosphere, without the use of surface pigments, stains or coloured sands.

The colour of a Dreadnought Tile is unique, their natural colour has a warmth and subtlety that cannot be matched with artificial colours and will endure for the lifetime of the tile, as the colour is fired into the body rather than applied as a surface coating.

True clay colours are derived from the mineral content within the clay and produce a richness of colour on the roof that is unrivalled and will not fade.

The Dreadnought range of natural burnt clay colours is produced entirely by the sophisticated control of the burning process in the kiln with no surface stains, pigments or coloured sands added.  Varying degrees of oxidisation of the iron in the clay generate the different colours.  This ensures Dreadnought tiles do not fade and will quickly attain a mature, mellow appearance in use.  All other tile manufacturers now use applied colours to save cost.  Dreadnought is uncompromising in the conviction that natural colours produce a superior appearance and more enduring appeal.

Artificial stains and pigments have now widely replaced the traditional kiln firing expertise that has for centuries produced beautiful products. The difference between natural colours and artificial stains is all too obvious when confronted with samples and it is still clearer when on the roof.
