The Marley Concrete Segmental Stop End Ridge is a durable, high-quality roofing accessory designed to provide a professional, weather-tight finish to the ends of a ridge line.

Fully compatible with all Marley dry ridge systems for mechanical fixing, but can also be traditionally mortar-bedded.

Despite their popularity today, roof tiles did not play a significant part in the history of pitched roofing until Owen Aisher founded the Marley Tile Company in 1924.

After the First World War, roofing materials were in short supply, so in true entrepreneurial spirit, Owen bought one of the early Winget press machines and began making his own tiles. Little did he know that he would be responsible for transforming the roof tile industry in Britain both then and also for years to come.

What is Efflorescence and how do we treat it?

Efflorescence is a natural result of the reaction between cement and water. The calcium hydroxide ‘lime’ is a product of this reaction, which rises to the surface of the tile. It cannot be seen when wet but when the tile is dry a chalky, white residue can be seen.

The occurrence of efflorescence on concrete roof tiles is erratic and unpredictable, but weather conditions seem to be a significant factor.

Efflorescence forms more readily when the concrete tile becomes wet and dries slowly, and therefore, occurs more often during winter.
It is generally only likely to occur in the early life of the product, so materials installed for a year or more without experiencing efflorescence are unlikely to be affected in the future.

Marley concrete roof tiles have a pigmented polymer surface coating to help suppress the formation of efflorescence compounds. This coating has a lifespan of three to five years. By the time this coating has weathered, the concrete tile will have matured to such an extent that it is no longer susceptible to efflorescence.
